9. Tom Morello keeps punk-rock spirit of Woody Guthrie alive

Tom Morello says he rarely gets nervous anymore before he performs, in part because he’s done just about everything from rocking stadiums with Rage Against the Machine to participating in protest rallies around the world as a guitar-thrashing activist. But he does admit to feeling a little jumpy whenever he plays with Bruce Springsteen, as he did a few weeks ago at the South by Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas.

  13. News of the Weird: A Cannibal Wedding

Newspapers in Sweden reported in January that two of the country's most heinous murderers apparently fell in love with each other behind the locked doors of their psychiatric institution and, following a 26-day Internet-chat "courtship," have decided to marry. Mr. Isakin Jonsson ("the Skara Cannibal") was convicted of killing, decapitating and eating his girlfriend, and Michelle Gustafsson ("the Vampire Woman") was convicted of killing a father of four and drinking his blood. Said the love-struck Jonsson (certainly truthfully), to the newspaper Expressen, "I have never met anyone like (Michelle)." The pair will almost certainly remain locked up forever, but Gustafsson, on the Internet, wrote that she hopes they will be released, to live together and "have dogs and pursue our hobbies, piercing and tattoos."

  17. Just the right room for 'Turn of the Screw'

Is the governess being haunted by ghosts, or are there bats in her belfry? That essential conundrum at the heart of Henry James' 1898 novella comes into stark play in Jeffrey Hatcher's adaptation, now in a sturdy and suitably atmospheric staging with First Folio. (The company, admittedly, starts with a home-field advantage by using the loaded-with-gothic-shadows Peabody estate.)
