Reporting from Philadelphia -
Jonathan Broxton's teammates said Monday night that there was nothing they could tell the All-Star closer to console him for serving up a two-out, two-run double in the Dodgers' walk-off, 5-4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series.
"I don't know what to say," Andre Ethier said. "What would you say?"
The loss gave the the Dodgers a 3-1 deficit in the best-of-seven series, which resumes Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park.
Broxton started to unravel when he faced pinch hitter Matt Stairs -- the same Matt Stairs to whom he gave up a home run in Game 4 of the NLCS last year.
Broxton walked Stairs on four pitches and hit Carlos Ruiz to set up Rollins' double.
"You kind of give him his space," setup man George Sherrill said. Smiling, Sherrill added, "Especially a guy that big."
Sherrill said the Dodgers had to forget about the heartbreaking loss.
"Just act like it never happened," he said.
Chasing history
Only 11 times has a team trailed a best-of-seven series by a 3-1 margin and come back to win the series.
The team to most recently do so was the Boston Red Sox, who overturned a 3-1 deficit against the Cleveland Indians in 2007 and the New York Yankees in 2004.
Manny Ramirez played for both of those Red Sox teams. Casey Blake was on the 2007 Indians.
Report: Mattingly interviewed by Indians
Hitting coach Don Mattingly is among the candidates who have been interviewed for the Cleveland Indians' vacant managerial position, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.
Manny Acta, Bobby Valentine, Torey Lovullo and Travis Fryman have also been interviewed.
