Kristen Welker's dream to work in her hometown has come true. On April 4, 2005, Welker joined the NBC 10 News team as a general assignment reporter.
Before returning home to Philadelphia, Welker was a reporter and weekend morning anchor at WLNE-TV in Providence, Rhode Island. Prior to that, she worked as an anchor and reporter at KRCR-TV in Redding, California.
Early in her career, Welker worked as a researcher on NBC Weekend Today, and as an assistant producer for CBS Newspath.
After graduating from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with a B.A. Cum Laude in American History, Welker spent a year improving her communication skills, studying Spanish in Madrid on a Rotary Scholarship. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
Most of Welker's family resides in the Philadelphia area. She attended Germantown Friends School where she discovered her passion for news by writing her own column for the school newspaper. In her spare time, Welker enjoys most outdoor sports - especially running and hiking. Active in her community, Welker enjoys mentoring and working with youth in the foster community. She also serves as a board member for Robins' Nest Inc., an organization to address the needs of neglected youth.
Welker is happy to be near her family and friends, and she resides in the Philadelphia area.
