PHILADELPHIA- New Year's day at 9am, PHL17 will begin coverage of the SugarHouse Casino Mummers Parade with a special entitled Breakfast with the Mummers. Live coverage from 16th and JFK will follow and will be broadcast in HD (high definition.)
Returning this year is PHL17’s Steve Highsmith who will anchor coverage of the broadcast. In the broadcast booth during the String Bands will be U.S. Magistrate Judge Jacob Hart, with Ron Goldwyn joining Highsmith during the Comics. Highsmith will also be joined throughout the day by various personalities including special guests Pierre Robert of WMMR, Mayor Michael Nutter, Congressman Bob Brady, Tim Furlong, Byron Scott, Eryka Washington, and Mummers legend Bob Shannon.
PHL17 willonce more broadcast the SugarHouse Casino Fancy Brigade Finale from the Pennsylvania Convention Center from 8pm to 10pm New Year's Day, hosted by Lori Wilson.
New this year, viewers can also see the SugarHouse Casino Mummers Parade live on PHL17.com starting at 10am. (Live Mummers Parade web stream will be here) This is a great opportunity for Mummers enthusiasts throughout the world to view this unique Philadelphia tradition. In addition to the live stream, PHL17 will be positing photos and videos regularly throughout the day on PHL17.com.
Leading up to parade day host Steve Highsmith will feature the“SugarHouse Casino Mummers Moments” in Eye Opener from 6am-8am and PHL17 News at Ten Powered by NBC10. These special Mummers moments will take you behind the scenes of Mummery and show you just what it’s like to be a part of this Philadelphia tradition.
Returning this year is the SugarHouse Casino “Viewer’s Choice Poll" where Mummers fans can vote for their favorite String Band and Fancy Brigade performance. Viewers can enter online at PHL17.com where polls will open for voting at 5pm on New Year's Day and will close at 8:59am on Monday January 9th.
The Mummers Parade is a longtime Philadelphia tradition and for many years has been the most watched television program in the region on New Year’s Day averaging an 8.7 household rating over the seventeen years it has been broadcast on PHL17.
