At PHL17, we offer interns a hands-on opportunity to apply the lessons learned in the classroom. Our size allows interns to receive one on one attention from our experienced broadcast professionals. The program offers students broad exposure to the daily operations of a local television station. Come prepared to work hard, learn a lot, and have fun! Interns at PHL17 work full days to see the creative process from inception to completion, therefore a minimum of 6 hours a day is required.

Production / Editing
Like to write? Interested in advertising? Have knowledge or training on non linear edit equipment? This is the place for you! As a Promotion and Production intern, you could find yourself working on anything from a spot for Friends, to a commercial for a client, to one of our locally produced specials. Intern responsibilities can include writing, editing, and all phases of producing a shoot. Knowledge of PHL17programming and attention to detail a must!
Broadcast Design / Graphic Design
Some internships make you get coffee, this one lets you get your work on television, transit, magazines, and billboards. We look for a dedicated student with working knowledge of the programs After Effects, Illustrator, and Photoshop. You will assist with the creation of motion graphics, print campaigns, web art, and even outdoor designs. This is a great opportunity and offers experience and a chance to build your portfolio with real world examples.
Website Design
Candidates should be interested in Graphic Design, Editing, Writing, and be familiar with CMS, or Content Management Systems. Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash will also come in handy! Intern responsibilities can include writing, editing, and all phases of producing a website. Knowledge of myphl17 programming and attention to detail a must! PR/Promotions/Special Events
Like to do a little bit of everything? Consider yourself a jack of all trades? Then look no further!
As a PR/Promotions/Special Events intern, you will aid in the various aspects of the Creative Services Department. You will assist in the execution and fulfillment of on-air and web based contests, write press releases and media advisories; help maintain PHL17's web site, as well as help organize, represent, and promote the station at local community events. Additionally, this position will allow you the an opportunity to work on post production projects such as on-air billboards and community calendars. This broad position will touch on various aspects of the Creative Services Department, allowing you to become more well rounded in the media industry.If you want hands on, you got it!
Sales
Interns in the Sales Department play an important role in promoting the station image to the advertising community by assisting the account executives, sales management, the research director , and the traffic department . A student interested in the sales and marketing arena will learn to use many effective tools when selling television advertising. Students will learn to develop presentation materials, read rating books, research relevant market competitors and assist in the production of effective sales pitches. Students will accompany sales management and account executives on sales calls. After a semester in the Sales Department, a student will have a strong understanding of what it takes to sell and exactly how it is done.

To get the most out of your internship, we request that you be available to work no less than 12 hours a week with a maximum of 32 hours/wk. Internships at PHL17 are awarded on a first come, first served basis. Applications are accepted up to six months in advance of the start of the semester. Interviews will be scheduled with prospective interns two months in advance of the start of the internship.
